Major Traffic Diversions
Monash Freeway to West Gate Freeway
Vehicles will be able to access the West Gate Freeway from the Monash Freeway via Toorak Road and Kings Way. Vehicles will be able to access the West Gate Freeway at Kings Way and continue through to the West Gate Bridge, noting that there will be no access to Bolte Bridge or Todd Road.
Monash Freeway to Tullamarine Freeway
Traffic destined for the Tullamarine Freeway from the Monash Freeway will be required to exit at Punt Road and continue in a northbound direction along Hoddle Street, turn left into Alexandra Parade into Princes Street and Cemetery Road, continue into McArthur Street and Elliott Avenue, and then turn right into Flemington Road to CityLink.
It is noted that the bridge over Punt Road north of Swan Street has low clearance of 4.3m. In the event that over-dimensional vehicles access this route during the closure of the Swan Street Bridge they will be directed to wait in Swan Street immediately west of Punt Road until the bridge is re-opened at approximately 10:30am. Vehicles will then be able to access the West Gate Freeway and access the Tullamarine Freeway via the Western Ring Road.
Warrigal Road – Heavy Vehicle, Over Dimensional and Dangerous Goods Route
Over Dimensional vehicles will be advised via Variable Message Signs (VMS) to exit the Monash Freeway at Warrigal Road and connect to OD5 at South Road. It is expected that Over Dimensional and Dangerous Goods vehicle drivers will be aware of the OD5 route. Where the OD5 route intersects with Williamstown Road, vehicles will be directed to turn left into Williamstown Road and enter West Gate Freeway from Todd Road.
EastLink / Springvale Road – Over Dimensional and Dangerous Goods Route
Vehicles travelling from the Monash Freeway to the Hume Highway will be advised via permanent and temporary VMS boards to exit the Monash Freeway at EastLink to connect to OD1. It is expected that Over Dimensional and Dangerous Goods vehicle drivers will be aware of the OD1 route.
West Gate Freeway to Tullamarine Freeway
Lorimer Street – Primary Diversion Route
Vehicles that are travelling to CityLink (north) / Tullamarine Freeway will be directed to use the Lorimer Street exit. These vehicles will be able to access Dynon Road (via Montague Street, Wurundjeri Way, Dudley Street and Spencer Street (north of Dudley Street)) to rejoin CityLink.
Over dimensional vehicles will be directed from Wurundjeri Way to Dynon Road via Footscray Road and Dock Link Road (due to height restrictions on Dudley Street).
Bolte Bridge (northbound) will be closed between 8:00am – 11:30pm approximately.
Central City Access
Given the extent of the road closures, it is generally advisable to drivers to avoid the city centre. Access will be possible via Kings Way, Footscray Road and all points east and north.
Docklands Access (Victoria Harbour)
Access to the Docklands precinct, specifically Victoria Harbour (west of Harbour Esplanade) will be provided via Batmans Hill Drive. The course incorporates the eastbound carriageway of Collins Street between Batmans Hill Drive and Harbour Esplanade and as such vehicle movements along this stretch of Collins Street will be restricted to the westbound carriageway only (one lane). Two-way traffic flow will be controlled by traffic controllers at either end with 'stop and go' signs and two-way radio. In addition access (entry only) into the precinct will also be provided via the access from Charles Grimes Bridge (Wurundjeri Way).
The Bourke Street access to the Docklands precinct will be kept open as long as possible prior to the event and reopened as soon as possible after the event to ensure that the impacts to Victoria Harbour are minimised as much as possible.

Emergency Vehicle Access
At all times, the traffic management strategy seeks to maintain direct and convenient emergency vehicular access around the routes. Emergency vehicle lanes will be provided on the course for long sections of road including the Domain Tunnel, the West Gate Freeway and the Bolte Bridge. In the inner city area, emergency vehicles are able to utilise the tram tracks where available, including Spencer Street, Clarendon Street and Harbour Esplanade.
In circumstances of specific emergency access requirements along the course routes, relevant sections will be made available by event organisers and the Victoria Police.
