Pedestrian and Cyclist Access
Overview
Controlled crossing points throughout the event route will be installed at key pedestrian areas. In particular, Crown Entertainment Complex and Federation Square will be made accessible with marshals to facilitate pedestrian and cyclist movements and are described below.
Pedestrian and cyclist movements will be permitted and uncontrolled at other locations throughout the course.
Crown Entertainment Complex
An at-grade pedestrian crossing with marshals assisting pedestrian movements will be provided adjacent to Crown Casino on Queens Bridge Street south of Queens Bridge. In particular, the crossing will assist pedestrian movements between Crown Entertainment Complex and Southbank.
The airbridge across Whiteman Street will also be promoted for north-south pedestrian movements.
The Run for the Kids long course will in 2013 travel along Southbank, and underneath the Princes Bridge, between 9am and midday on Sunday the 24th March. Pedestrian access through Southbank will be maintained at all times, however there will be periods where crossing from Southgate to the river bridges will not be possible due to the volume of runners in the area. During this time, pedestrians wanting to cross the river will be directed to Princes Bridge which remains open to cars travelling northbound, trams and pedestrians.
Flinders Street Station
Signage will be provided within the station and marshals will direct pedestrians to these underpasses from the time Flinders Street and Swanson Street are closed. Marshals will be located at both sites to aid pedestrian movements.
Marshals will also be located at the intersection of Flinders Street and Swanston Street to assist with pedestrian movements before and after the 'Run for the Kids' participants have passed through this area, and wherever it is safe to cross during the race.
