Nutrition tips for the Run for the Kids event, along with Steve Moneghetti's training advice will appear exclusively in the Herald Sun's Health and Fitness section every Monday commencing in January. Watch this space for Steve's special race day tips.

It is important to have a balanced diet when training or engaging in regular physical activity.

As a general rule, the two key components to any diet for active people are:

  1. Hydration - regular intake of water is essential before, after and during physical activity.
  2. Carbohydrates - your body requires glucose for energy when you exercise and glucose is formed from the breakdown of carbohydrates (sugar and starches).
